  1.  The relative cost of goods and what it does to our closets.

Many of us have too many things in our closets. Butter, specifically the price of butter, is the culprit.  The other day I went clothes shopping and after buying a few adorable, affordable things from H&M, I swung by Publix to buy some butter.  The cost of two small containers of Kerrygold butter was more than my cute new T-shirt.  This is really why we have too many things in our closet.

Few stores illustrate this better than Target.  Years ago, when my kids were little, I would go to Target to find a cute summer dress during one of their collabs with Calypso St Bart or Missoni.  Then on the way out, I would remember that I needed some Tide and some paper towels.  The part of the conveyor belt with my clothing cost the same as the other half carrying my household goods.  The drudgery of running down the hall to do laundry versus the appeal of wearing my new tunic, well, there was no comparison.  It almost made me return the big box of Tide to the shelf.

So don’t beat yourself up about having too many things in your closet.  Just do something about it.  Realize you have gotten your money out of the items you are getting rid of and you are “buying back” the square footage of space in your closet.
